Julie Starnes

SOA Interim Director

Julie Starnes is the new Interim Director of the Southport Baptist Church School of the Arts. She and her husband, Zeb, relocated to the Southport-Oak Island area 13 years ago from Durham where she retired from the pharmaceutical industry and held varying management positions. Zeb retired after 40 years as a professional photographer.  Julie and Zeb joined SBC last December and currently sing in the choir and attend Sunday School. You’ll likely see Zeb running around taking pictures.

Music has always played an important role in Julie’s life beginning with her piano lessons at 8 years old. She was very shy, but her instructors encouraged her to play for school assemblies and her Church. Hymns came naturally to her and she became the principal pianist for her Church spanning 20 years. This time in her life was an important stepping stone in her faith journey. Although she no longer plays the piano for Church, she has sung in many Church choirs. She and Zeb currently sing with the Sea Notes Choral Society Choir and serve as publicity co-chairs. Julie was also a former Stephen Minister through her previous Church and continues to reach out to those who need special care. They have been married for 32 years and have a blended family of 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Julie is very thankful for this opportunity to serve the Lord by participating in the furthering of His kingdom by making disciples and sharing the love of Jesus through the Southport Baptist School of the Arts.
